6 foods that you should avoid completely if you have heart burns or acid reflux
Have you ever wondered what happens with the food we eat or, to be more specific, how food is stirred in our stomach? Without going into too many technical aspects, a simple statement would be that our stomachs are coated with digestive acids made from various enzymes and this helps the food break and enter the process of digestion and absorption. That said, this acid occurs only in the stomach and is not released to any other organ. This is carried out by the lower esophageal sphincter, and when this function fails, the acid is published in the other parts. It mainly enters the esophagus and causes irritation in the chest.
In conventional terms, this is known as acid reflux or heartburns. There is no specific reason why acid refluxes occur and may include your lifestyle, your exercise patterns or even when bending over. Smoking and excessive drinking can also lead to such abnormalities. Strong acid refluxes are not exactly harmful, and in most cases, they disappear on their own, they should not be taken lightly. They cause a burning sensation in the chest region and can cause symptoms of bloating in the stomach. This may be associated with severe abdominal pain and cramping. The diet that you take also plays an important role and, strictly, there are some foods that you should avoid entirely in case you suffer from acid reflux. We have given a list here. Take a look at them for a better understanding.
Some foods to avoid entirely if you have heartburns or acid reflux:
1. Chocolate
Chocolate lovers- Please, sorry! But if you have heartburns or if you feel that you have such sensations, then it would be safe to stay away from the chocolates. Most chocolates contain a serving of caffeine and other stimulants that can cause reflux. Also, due to their nature, they are difficult to digest and, as a rule, anything difficult to digest can increase the chances of muscles tensing, leading to reflux. In addition to that, cocoa is the central part of the chocolate and allows stomach acids to rise, causing such indications of acidity. Try to avoid them, especially at night if you feel that you have signs of burns to the heart. Stay away from even dark chocolates also because of its rich cocoa content.
2. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are strict not when you have acid reflux. This applies even to tomato-based foods, such as tomato sauce or puree. Tomatoes are natural sources of citric acid and malic acid and can cause irritations in the lining of the stomach causing reflux. During digestion, tomatoes also release gastric acid, and this causes the burning sensation to increase and sometimes reach your chest. Do not eat foods related to tomatoes when you are suffering from burns to the heart.
3. Coffee
Coffee is not exactly good for your acid problems. In many cases, caffeine raises its acid levels, which increases heartburn. Coffee is a type of food that causes the gastric region to empty soon. This leaves room for the acids to rise and can occupy your intestines. Needless to say, this can make you feel acidic and cause you to experience symptoms of heartburn. The problem can be especially significant for people who especially drink black coffee, without milk or cream. Avoid coffees and instead alternate with green tea or herbal tea.
4. Citrus fruits
Citrus fruits are excellent for your health usually, but they simply make the condition worse if you suffer from acid refluxes. Citrus fruits are naturally acidic, and this exerts additional pressure on your digestive system. This is strictly inadvisable when you have such citrus fruits on an empty stomach. They can make the linings of your stomach acidic and produce more acidity in your system. This causes the acid bile to rise and make you experience the symptoms. Do not go for citrus, even in its juice formats. Stay away from them.
5. High-fat meats
High-fat meats or red meats are one that you should keep away from during acid reflux. Red meats such as pork, veal, and lamb are tough to digest, and this makes them stay in your digestive system for longer. Due to this unwanted pressure, our digestive tract can be exerted, and this can cause the content of the stomach to increase leading to acidity. Having such meats also makes the bitterness last longer in our system. Also, they are not too good for your heart. Try to limit your stress and avoid them during heartburn.
6. Aired drinks
Some people drink in carbonated or carbonated beverages with the assumption that it causes them to burp, thus releasing the acidity. This is wrong in many ways. First, they do not cause you to grow and, secondly, do not decrease your acid levels. Carbonated beverages are themselves acidic in nature. In some way, they make the situation of your acidity worse. Also, in the long run, these drinks can cause more damage permanently. It would be prudent to limit or obliterate them.
